AXEL'S OF VAIL
Axel's of Vail is more than just a delightful emporium stuffed with goodies to make you want to jump on a flight to Colorado, it is the manifestation of a couple's love story. Axel Wilhelmsen, a Norwegian, and his wife Jamie, together with their two adult offspring, Candice and Axel Jr., and a loyal staff, have created not just a store with a magical feel to it but a website that is a total pleasure to visit.
Axel's stay in tune with the changing seasons in Vail, sharing photographs of this (and the repairs to their roof!) with visitors, and offer the most wonderful ranges of clothing and accessories from the USA and Europe. The online catalog is packed with mouth-watering designer goodies.
The range of cowboy boots for men and women is superbly photographed and there are some wonderful shots of lasts in the workshop where the footwear is made - these touches make a visit to Axel's website so much more than just an online shopping trip.
One particularly fetching piece seen on our latest online visit, is the Comstock Heritage Ted Trout engraved belt buckle, with silver and gold scrolls overlaid, a gold rope edging and rubies as a finishing touch. Although not immediately available, a telephone number was provided so that one could place an order.
The stitching on a very fetching Luciano Barbera short, half-lined blazer stands up to the closest of scrutiny, and that is another thing we love about the website - the photography is phenomenal and, by the time one has looked at the various views of a given item, one feels absolutely confident of being able to order in the full knowledge of what one might expect to receive.
This is a shop for the discerning and cultured individual, buying classic apparel to form a permanent part of the wardrobe. Unlike fashion, that elusive and insubstantial element, the clothing and accessories at Axel's of Vail have a far more important value: style. There is a timeless, classic and luxurious feel to absolutely everything about Axel's and to return there, whether online or at the shop in Vail itself, will always be a pleasure and a privilege.
