In this edition of MarineZine we bring you portraits of
a father and son, natives of the Caribbean island of Bequia largest of the
Grenadines, Lennox and Dwight Taylor. We also feature an extraordinary
character, native of Germany, Utz Müller-Treu, of whom you may have read
a little elsewhere in this issue of MarineZine.

Lennox Taylor, Mr. T as he is known
to most, was born in St. Vincent and moved to Bequia as a
small boy. He has been racing boats in Bequia and around the
Caribbean since 1965.
 He was designing and building
his own boats before most of his competitors were born. On
the right is an old photograph of Country Girl, with which he
won races from 1965 until quite recently, in spite of
being obliged to agree to race in a class in which his hull was
a good eight feet shorter than any of the others, Country Girl
being considered too fast to compete with other, more
traditional boats of her own size.
 The
elegant boat 'Brave Heart' which he built four years ago
and races these days is pictured here (left) participating in
the 1997 Bequia Regatta. Time spent with Lennox Taylor is
not only enjoyable but also very instructive, as he is an
experienced sailor and fisherman as well as being a mine of
fascinating true stories, facts and indeed wisdom, too.
As a ship's bosun he saw a good deal
of the world, in younger days, and has always been as much at
home on a cargo ship as in a dinghy, although he goes out to sea
less these days, having built up several thriving businesses,
together with his statuesque wife Noelina.
He still takes guests out sailing and fishing with pleasure
though!
