Visitors to Europe from New Zealand apparently find that
their gas tanks cannot be refilled because the correct adaptor is not
available. Fortunately, in Spain, there are several sizes of butane tank
available and 'yachties' can buy a medium-sized blue tank and fittings quite
inexpensively at any one of a large network of gas stores. Presumably,
these items can be sold on, to others from their homeland who are planning
to sail into Europe when the New Zealanders get home... In
Almerimar marina, on the south coast of Spain, the medium-sized blue
butane refills are available from Alamar, the chandlers nearest the
boatyard, and they are also available (at a lower cost, last time we
looked...) from the Spanish chandler at
Darsena 2, next to the 'Taberna Solea' bar/restaurant. There
are also offers, from time to time, from Cepsa, the Spanish gas giant, of
free stainless steel butane tanks for those who take out a contract to
purchase their butane from the company - you may need an address ashore to
arrange such a deal and many 'yachties' who have purchased property in Spain
now have shiny new butane tanks aboard their boats... If
you have been away from your boat for some time and there is a rubber pipe
forming any part of your gas arrangement, DO remember to check it and, if
in any doubt, replace it, before going to sea, won't you? Have
you any information that might be useful to other travelling 'yachties'?
We'd love to hear from you!
