THE EXPERTISE PAGE  is about boat-building and re-fitting projects, installations and repairs, but first let us introduce you to the other pages in the Expertise section:

A Real Education  is about specialist craftsmanship courses and institutions; in All Kitted Out, we invite you to tell us about kits and plans for boat-builders and would-be boat builders.
We look at courses and schools devoted to boat design and building in  Designs on You and, in conjunction with the Computer Section, we hope to feature software designed for the purpose too.

Chilling Out is about refrigeration - 12v; 24v; 110v; 230v and gas-powered. Air-cooled or kept cold with water-cooling. What insulation materials work most efficiently, is deep-freezing viable on ocean passages and other chilling topics.

Electrickery includes Down The Wire which focuses on boat wiring, generators, alternators and battery banks  Electronic Wizardry on radar, GPS, VHF, SSB, auto-pilot 'brain-boxes' and all the new toys; there's Watt Wisdom about energy sources and power management, including Going With The Wind our wind generator page and Soaking Up The Rays, which is about solar panels.

Jury Rigs is about lash-ups and the mother of invention. Those temporary repairs that get us out of a tight spot...Share your jury rig stories, see what solutions people have thought of to tricky situations. How long has your 'temporary' jury rig been in place?

Piped Aboard covers fresh and salt water plumbing, from the tank end of the equation to the pesky problem of blocked heads, via stainless steel hose clamps with moving parts which are anything but...

Testing, Testing covers product reviews; what's new, or tried and true; previews of  items due to come onto the market and comparisons. Our equipment surveys will enable you to participate in an information-gathering exercise that is unbiased and independent and to see the results of those surveys.

Yacht Survey is about production boats, not necessarily the latest models, which are already covered pretty intensively in other publications, but any boat which enjoys a following. We will be glad to cover clubs and associations, help form owner's groups and generally create opportunities for like-minded boat-owners to exchange information, ideas and stories.
Production boat builders may like to exchange ideas with owners, who can compare and discuss features of their yachts, desired improvements and performance notes.

Got a major, or a minor but tricky job to handle on your boat? Wondering how to get it right first time and as economically as possible?
Tell us where and when you plan to tackle the job, what the job itself is and what constraints should be taken into account. We'll put as many projects as we can to the readership and see what suggestions can be offered to help you, and others facing the same task. If you feel photographs might be helpful, send them with your letter and we'll include them.
Even if you're planning to get someone else to do the job and would just like to know the best way to do it so that you can appraise the proposals of those who want to do the work for you, talk to other readers through our expertise pages.

If you've just solved a thorny problem and are rather pleased with the way it turned out, tell us about it and let us offer other readers the opportunity to learn from your success. Equally, if you've had a bit of a disaster and are willing to tell all, you may save some other poor soul from going through the agony!

If you'd like to know about books on the subject, or share your knowledge of books on relevant topics, you may like to visit the Marine Bookshelves in our Library section.
