STILL
NONE THE WISER!
It's not for lack of trying to find out
that we remain ignorant of the best way for those of us who are not
mega-rich to get online aboard our boats. Admittedly, we haven't tried
to get the low-down by going online, but that's the whole point...
Most of those who are not online at home cannot easily use the Internet
to find out how to alter that state of affairs. We ask other live-aboard
sailors but, so far, we haven't received a straightforward answer that
we could understand.
It has been explained to us that one can
connect the SSB radio to a laptop computer and download weather charts
and that sounds fine, but we would really like to know how ordinary
people can use either a mobile phone or an SSB to send and receive
e-mails and, maybe, even upload to a website, without having to spend a
fortune. We can accept that there may be a limit to the range over which
this can be done and we would really appreciate it if someone would
spell out to us, in words of one syllable, what the options and
possibilities are.
We have been blinded by science, time and
again so, if you can help with some information, we'd love to hear from
you. We have no doubt, since none of them are online aboard, as yet,
that many of our cruising friends and acquaintances who visit these
pages would also be fascinated to know...
