I've never been a
smart one. In fact, I honestly cannot wait to leave school but I know how
important it is for me to finish my schooling. So here I am, sitting in a
boarding school in Australia. I’ve
been going to Geelong College for 1 year, 1 term, and 1 week now.
It’s so different
from the life that I used to live. What I mean is that, now, I have to
work my life around bells, teachers and assignments that are due, whereas
before I was doing correspondence classes.
All I had to worry about was actually getting up in the morning to get it
all done, in time to catch my friends at the beach at 1pm.
You meet different
people, as well, when you're living and traveling on a boat. Here I know
all the people in my year at school. I’m not saying that I know them
really well but if I see one walking down the street I can say “Yeah, I
know that person. She goes to the same school as me and is in the same
year as well.”
But it also has its
good points I guess. Staying in one place, for a start. This is something
new for me. It’s great. I know that I have heaps of time to catch up
with friends because I’m going to be sailing out in about a week. But
it’s also made things really hard. When I finish year twelve, I had
planned on going back to the Caribbean and getting a job on a boat but
having such good friends here has really made it hard to leave.
I know they say
that if they are good friends they’ll be there when you get back, but I
don’t want to leave. I want to stay and have fun and join in on things
that they do. I guess that you could say that I just don’t want to miss
out on anything but I guess that I’m just going to enjoy what I’ve got
while it’s here.
My friends will
always be here and I can always e-mail them. So all that I have to do now
is get through the rest of my school years. That’s 1 year, 2 terms, and
9 weeks till graduation and counting...
Is
that the way you feel about school or is it different for you? We'd
love to hear!

because of problems at home? Has someone you know run away but kept in touch
with you? Are you thinking of running away yourself? Please click on the

the best you can do to try and help resolve the situation, whether yours or
someone else's. It can be hard, as a teenager, to see things from any other
perspective but our own. This website may help to make you, and anyone else
you want to tell about it, aware of the bigger picture. |
