Continuing in our trend towards the somewhat unusual, we have veered away from the modern sloop temporarily and, for this issue, we thought we'd bring you a very special sloop indeed.
Some might be inclined to say that she belongs on the Tall Ship page.
This 110' sloop is a replica of a tall ship, the first command of John Paul Jones, two and a half centuries ago.
During her distinguished Naval career, the original 12-gun Providence sank or captured 40 British ships!
The replica Providence has taken thousands of children into the waters of New England and beyond for teamwork and leadership development, ecological history and maritime culture. She is also chartered for corporate sailing adventure programmes and is an awesome sight as she sails the beautiful Narragansett Bay area.
There is a website devoted to the Sloop Providence and it is worth visiting, apart from any other consideration (and there are plenty), for the Virtual Tour...you can climb aboard the Providence and look around her deck and beyond, all without leaving your keyboard!
