John & FranOur Multihull editor, Fran Slingerland, is currently in Mangareva on Gambiers, part of French Polynesia, having arrived there, in early April, after a slow trip from Easter Island aboard the performance trimaran 'Ninth Charm'. She has every intention of sending in her article for this page as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we thought you might like to see Fran and 'Ninth Charm' for yourself.
More of Guy Clothier's excellent photography can be seen in the Photo Essay on the official Ninth Charm website.

To see and read more of the epic voyage aboard 'Ninth Charm', you can log on to http://www.ditton.net/ninthcharm

While we wait for Fran's contribution, we thought you might like a few links to sites that deal with the topic on this page. We would very much appreciate information on relevant sites that you think other readers might enjoy and why, if you can spare a moment to tell us about any you know of.

If we all make that small effort, we will doubtless be rewarded by the joy of discovering websites we might otherwise have missed.
So far, our mailbox has produced the following sites:

Catamaran Sailor, the USA National Catamaran Monthly Newspaper has a website at http://www.catsailor.com

The British Columbia Multihull Society have a website at http://bcms.bc.ca/index.html

Check out a Catamaran Sailing Simulator, for both Windows and Mac, at http://www.poseysail.com

Interested in e-zines? How about an e-zine for Hobie Sailors at http://www.west.net/~lpm/hobie
with contact via e-mail: mattson@earthlink.net

If the Hobie is your baby, take a look at the official International Wave Class Association (IWCA) site at http://www.waveclass.com

Our thanks to Joe Hyams, Kerry Jackson and T.L. Beardon for sending in the addresses of these websites for other readers to enjoy. We look forward to hearing about sites you consider worth mentioning here.

GETTING FASTER EVERY DAY

On the 3rd of March 2001, the 33m catamaran 'Club Med', with a 40m mast, arrived in Marseilles, having gone around the world in nine days less than any other sailing vessel has ever been known to. To be precise: 62 days, 6 hours and 56 minutes.

No new World Record for circumnavigation was set as the 'Club Med' had started her journey in Barcelona, thus technically not having 'closed the circuit'.

Skippered by New Zealander Grant Dalton, the vessel managed 655 nautical miles in a single 24-hour period on one occasion! No sailing vessel has ever beaten that impressive achievement.
