The 'FIJAMOR'

'Fijamor' Going Down TheClyde.jpg (35052 bytes)In this issue we feature Angus Brazenall's ketch, the  'FIJAMOR'. He thought we might want to say something derogatory but, on the contrary, we think she's rather lovely and very practical.

(Click on photographs to see the full-sized versions)

Length:    38'
Beam:     11' 3"
Draught:    5'
Tonnage:   8.16
– 11.58m (43' – 13.10m from tip to tip)
–   3.43m
–   1.52m

Shiny Hull Repaint.jpg (201672 bytes)Fijamor's hull construction is in steel with a foam 'sandwich' and her superstructure is in GRP (fibreglass). Her 80 horsepower Mermaid engine turns a 20" propellor and the 'Fijamor' displaces 12 tons.

'Fijamor' On Beach.jpg (800274 bytes)
She is a triple-keeler with a long, integral, centre keel and fin bilge plates that are 3" shorter than the main keel.

Before Her New Sails.jpg (122416 bytes)There are photographs of the hull and keel alterations

Our thanks to Angus Brazenall for these photographs and also for his interesting article on back pain, featured on our Surgeon's Mate page in the Around and About pages of the LayDays section.
