We thought it might be interesting to ask the crew of Spirit of
Minerva to throw a few questions we were curious to know their thoughts
about, and let anyone aboard who felt so inclined give us their
answers...
Q: What is your favourite part of the day?
"Happy Hour, although it's tea-total. We have lots of laughs" -
Erica Briley
"Sunrise & sunset (as well as Happy Hour of course!), watching the night sky
with a full moon" - Selina
Ramm
"Coming off watch" - Dave
“Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: Would you ever sail across an ocean again?
"Yes, but in 1st class by jumbo jet, with adequate supplies of gin & tonic" -
Geoff Nicholson
"Would probably return to racing around the cans" - Selina Ramm
"No, done 'em all" - Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: What do you think of the food cooked onboard?
"Excellent, healthy, nutritious" - Selina Ramm
"Superb, I particularly enjoy the silver service" - Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: What has been the most challenging part of the Race so far?
"Making pancakes for 10 on Shrove Tuesday" - Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
"Tahiti, Sydney, & hopefully Glasgow? Watch this space, she's coming to
Scotland" - Iain
Bowden
Q: Do you miss life at home much?
"Not as much as expected. Don't miss TV, papers, etc.," - Selina
(Ramm)
"Just family, friends, walking in the English countryside & reading the Sunday
papers, in bed" -
Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: Would you now buy a boat? If so what kind?
"Would buy a high performance dinghy.
How could I find a yacht which would match the performance of this one?" -
Selina Ramm
"Nothing that doesn't average less than 10knots" - Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: Which place has interested you most en-route?
"Christmas Island and I really enjoyed sailing through the Coral Sea" -
Selina Ramm
"Galapagos, I'll never forget swimming with sea lions" - Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: What do you think of the boat?
"Superb, a great experience" - Mike Loughtman
Q: What do you dislike the most about a day at sea?
"Putting on foul weather gear, still wet from my last watch" -
Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
Q: What do you miss the most that you don't have onboard?
"My duvet, ' loos' that flush, showers that don't move, a bigger kitchen. But
it's great stuff, we love it all.
Life onboard teaches the fine art of appreciation". - Lucy
Martin "P.S. soft ' loo' roll..."
Q: What are you most looking forward to when you get back to UK?
"My bed, knowing that I won't be rushing on deck in a crisis, and a lie- in
too!" - Hugh Martin (the skipper).
Q: Something else you would like to say?
"I've learnt a lot about myself and made some great friendships.
I'm particularly happy and a little surprised at how well everybody on Minerva has got along
with each other, which isn't always the case in such tight confines" -
Dave “Gadget/Chatty” Reynolds
That Dave Reynolds is a wag, isn't he? Silver
service! Mind you, perhaps he wasn't joking! Those yachts looked
pretty smart to us...
