Sea Lawyers May Apply!
Legal Eagles welcomed!
Tell us your story... we'd love to hear about legal cases, precedents, anything
which might be of interest to sailors and sea-captains, armchair
voyagers or the merely curious.
In the meantime, we thought we'd offer a few little goodies we have
rounded up...

THE LAW THE LAWYERS KNOW
|
|
by H.P.D. Peplar
The law the lawyers know about
is property and land.
But why the leaves are on the trees,
and why the waves disturb the seas,
they do not understand.

RULES OF THE ROAD
|
|
Aids to Memory by Thomas Gray 1877
|
|
Both in safety and in doubt,
Always keep a good look out.
In danger, with no room to turn
Ease her, stop her, go astern.

A SAILOR'S EPITAPH
|
|
Anon

Here lies the body of Michael O'Day
Who died maintaining his right of way
He was right, dead right, as he sailed along
but he's just as dead as if he'd been wrong.

Are you a maritime lawyer or have you had dealings with maritime law?
We'd love to hear from anyone who has a story to tell, hints and tips or news of changes in maritime law which affect yachting and boating folk.
If you have knowledge and/or experience to share from either end of the
law, as plaintiff or defendant - we'd love to hear from you.
We are particularly interested in the laws governing the carrying of
weapons for the defence of vessels at sea and in those governing salvage
rights when a boat captain requires assistance. Can you elucidate on the
current state of these laws?
