Longing for a taste of something you haven't enjoyed since leaving home?
How often have we heard the cry of "Where can I get Branston
Pickle? I can't live
without it a moment longer!"
If you're looking for a product in a far flung place, tell us where you are and what you are looking for and we'll ask our readers if they can help you locate your heart's
desire.
Maybe someone who is sailing your way can bring it along for you from somewhere they do have
it.
If enough people hanker after the same item, perhaps we can encourage local traders to import it for visiting
yachties. Speaking of which...if Branston Pickle just happens to be the
very thing and you're in, or heading for the Grenadines...you're in
luck. Click
on the jar to find out all about where we found it in Bequia!
If you've uncovered a little-known cache of something delicious, let us in on the good
news.
If enough people enjoy a particular local product, maybe we can use this page to help to create an export market for that product in our home countries…let's
start with Sherbert Fountains, preferably worldwide. (Sorry! Aren't
grown-ups supposed to like that sort of thing? Your Managing Editor is mad for
them.)
Speaking of things delicious, does anybody know how to dry bananas
satisfactorily? We've tried but only ended up with rotten banana...we'd
love to hear from anyone who has had success...
"IF ONLY WE'D KNOWN!" say our South African sailing counterparts when they visit the supermarkets on the Caribbean
islands, to obtain another huge jar of Marmite, like the ones they were used
to, back home.
You can't get this product on most of the islands, at any price, and the tiny jars
one does occasionally unearth are not exactly on special offer either.
If we keep each other informed on these pages we'll all know what to
stock up on and what makes for good trading items anywhere in the world.
For our non-vegetarian readers based in the United States of America, we
have found a rather useful provisioning company - if you haven't come
across them before, you may like to read
about Brinkman's Farms.
