Charter Web Review
http://www.ed-hamilton.com
This is a company with a website well worth visiting - you will
find a good selection of yachts, comments from clients of both the crewed and
bareboat yachts and good descriptions of the yachts available. The company have
been working on their website and also send out an excellent newsletter called The Charter Connection,
a bi-monthly E-mail newsletter that covers all aspects of bareboat and crewed yacht chartering in the Caribbean. Sent out the first
week of every other month.
To subscribe to the newsletter yourself, send a blank e-mail (no subject or
text) to yachtcharter-on@mail-list.com,
but remember to do it from your own e-mail address. If you are reading this in
an Internet Café don't send an e-mail from this
page. If you do, the Internet Café will receive the newsletter at their e-mail
address and you will be waiting and wondering why it never arrives in your inbox!

Here's a sample of the kind of article they carry (from an old
newsletter), which are of
general interest to subscribers:
New Bareboat Start Times
by Scott Johnson
A few years ago, Sunsail made a departure from the industry standard of "noon to noon" charter times (one or two other
companies have had different times, but the vast majority of bareboat companies have traditionally started and ended
their charters at twelve noon). At the time, we thought that this new scheduling (starting every charter at 6 pm on the first
day, and ending at 11 am on the final day) may not be accepted very well in the American market. However, after an
initial "settling-in" period, it seems that Sunsail has successfully made this
transition.
Some people still prefer the traditional schedule, but overall the change has been well received.
Now, two other companies have decided to follow suit and offer evening charter starts. Moorings and Footloose now
offer 6 pm charter starts (although you can still opt for the noon-to-noon schedule if you prefer). Clients arriving early in
the day of their 6 pm start may attend a chart briefing at 4 pm and leave the dock around 6 pm.
Alternatively, there is a 7 pm briefing (Tortola only) and charters can cast off first thing the next
morning.
For charters arriving too late for the 7 pm briefing, the standard 9 am briefing will take place the next morning.
Here's a typical example of one of their yacht reviews:
Featured Boat: 108' Broward motor yacht 'Jani'
by Gordon Reed
Each month we like to feature a certain yacht in our newsletter.
Over the last several months we have focused on a variety of new bareboats, so this month we thought we would discuss a crewed
yacht.
Having recently attended the 38th annual Nicholson Charter Yacht Show in Antigua, Ed, Barbara and I each returned with a satchel
full of new offerings. In the coming months we hope to share some insights into these
yachts.
My focus at the show was to view all of the motor yachts in attendance, visit with the crews and try to get a feel for what
spending some time aboard these amazing yachts is really like.
The reason I say this is that all of these yachts are quite extraordinary in one form or
another.
Ranging in size from 70 to 202 feet, the level of finish and extent of their luxury
accommodations is quite impressive.
This month we will tour the 108' Broward motoryacht 'Jani', a yacht both Ed and I thought represented a particularly good
value.
Built in 1985, 'Jani' had a total refit in 1995 and is in very nice condition for her year. Guests can choose from one of four
double cabins, two more or less equal master staterooms, a VIP which is nearly the same size, and a twin with two singles and a
drop down pullman.
Each cabin has attractive ensuite facilities, the VIP and one of the two masters also having a jacuzzi tub.
Each stateroom is nicely decorated with interesting art and accessories, attractive fabrics and light varnished wood trim.
The main and dining salons are together on the main deck and feature a casual but elegant feel. The salon offers comfortable
seating on a large, soft leather couch and two leather chairs.
This area feels larger than it is because of the full width design and an all glass bulkhead at the after end. Meals can be
served either in the formal dining room forward or more casually 'Al fresco' on the aft
deck.
The flying bridge and sun deck have a wet bar with built in BBQ grill, a "U" shaped settee and a large sunbed. Access to the
yacht's various water toys is very easy using a large stairway that leads from the open portion of the aft deck, to the swim
platform. Additional seating is available on the forward deck either on deck boxes or the settee that runs across the front of
the house.
For active groups 'Jani' carries a powerful RIB tender, water skis, kneeboards, a tube, 2 jet skis, and has an on-board
compressor. This yacht is actually nicer than her brochure. At $3,500 per person, per week (plus expenses) for 8, we feel she
is fairly priced for a boat of this size and quality.
