201

Tell us your hopes and dreams for this century.  What do you hope will change?  What would you like to leave behind in the 20th Century? What new things do you think will become possible in the 21st Century?

Do you think your life will be different to the lives of youngsters in the last and previous centuries? If you had to choose a 'model'  youngster, someone you admire, who would you choose and why? Are there any questions you would like answers to, from other youngsters, on the subject of this new century/millennium?

Write and tell us what you'd like to hear other youngsters talk about. If you have a point to put forwards about anything at all, pop it in an e-mail and share it with the world.

One of the things we are pretty worried about is the sneaky way the cigarette companies get around the laws against advertising tobacco.
Like putting out adverts which say to parents that they should warn you against smoking, as though it needed an advert from a tobacco company to get your parents to give you good advice! We think that what they are really trying to do is to make it seem exciting to youngsters to smoke, by saying that you shouldn't do it, hoping that young people will try smoking as a way of feeling more grown-up, so that they can sell more cigarettes.

Children who smoke damage their lungs and don't grow up as healthy and strong as they would have done but, unfortunately, there are some young people who decide to smoke anyway.

They know it is a smelly habit. They know they might as well be setting fire to money as smoking. They know it stops you from ever reaching your full height and can make you very ill, later on. They know they may get into trouble if they are caught, but still they smoke.

Perhaps an older child threatens to laugh at them for being 'childish' if they don't smoke. Perhaps they think it looks grown up? It doesn't, if you really want to know. It looks very silly, but they fool themselves that they will pass for a grown-up because they are surrounded by a cloud of smoke!  Let's hope that you're much too clever to do anything like that! Apart from everything else we've said, we hope you like yourself too much to turn yourself into a walking ashtray...

Have you visited our Quizzicles pages yet? You're sure to enjoy one or more of the things you find there!
