THOSE BITS AND BOBS OF NEWS AND VIEWS
Tell us anything you like about anything. What's new round your
way?
Where have you been lately, and what was it like?
Do you watch TV? What's going on in your favourite TV shows?
What's it like where you come from? Anything and everything is interesting if it comes from
you.
Does your family celebrate Christmas and Easter? We know lots of families who are not
Christians but who celebrate Christmas and Easter as well as the main holidays of their own
religions. How about St. Valentine's Day, which is MarineZine's birthday?
Do you celebrate birthdays in a special way?
So,
how did you spend last Christmas? Did
you do anything special to celebrate the New Year?
We
would all enjoy hearing about all the special days you celebrate and
we'd love to hear all about your way of spending those special days. You can
send us pictures you have drawn on your computer too, if you like, and/or
photographs! We though you might like to see the Christmas tree we had aboard our
floating headquarters for Christmas 2000.
We spent Christmas and the New Year in Horta, capital of Faial in the Azores - islands in the
middle of the Atlantic.
Every year we try to add one or two new decorations to our tree.
We have ornaments from all
over the world - some made of glass, others of plastic; a straw Santa Claus on a
parachute; a china angel; pine cones sprayed gold; a wooden snowman; a little
cardboard drum, made by a seven-year old friend in Trinidad, beautifully
decorated with glitter - the list goes on and on. We'd love to see pictures of
your Christmas tree if anyone has taken any. We are real Christmas tree fans!
Some families give gifts at Christmas time, others simply enjoy a special meal
with dried fruits and sweets afterwards. In some countries, the children hang up
a stocking before they go to bed and find it filled with toys and sweets when
they wake up on Christmas morning.
Here in Horta, Santa's helpers organised a collection of toys and games for the
local children of troubled families. We added a few toys, games and painting books to their
sleigh, as did most of the shoppers at
the local supermarket. It was nice to think of the youngsters having a happy
Christmas after all.
If you're one of those youngsters who saves up pocket-money
to buy things with, you probably like to know that the toys, games and other
items you choose are
going to be value for money. Do you receive regular pocket money? Tell us what sort of things you buy with your
own money and what kind of things you are always happy to get as gifts. Do you
earn your pocket money buy doing chores at home or are you just given it every
week, no matter whether you have done your share or not?
Don't be shy! We'd love to hear what you have to say.
