From System Safe Gold's Help manual:

We already know about the file zapping effects of human error and power fluctuations, but did you know your own operating system could zap or corrupt your system files? Ever seen this error message? "This program has performed an illegal operation." This error is most often generated when two applications try to use the same memory blocks to store information.

It could spell lost data. Likewise, if you have ever encountered this error, see your tray icons disappear and notice the 'Click Here to Start' arrow move across the task bar, your operating system has decayed. This means your operating system has either tried to use the same memory blocks with proponents of itself or with another application. While the error occurs, it is highly possible one or more system files were open for data input/output. When this happens, it is also possible to lose or corrupt these files. Your next logical step is to try to save your data and close any applications that are still running...if you still have applications running. Then do a system shutdown and reboot. While your system is rebooting, it helps to hope your system data is still intact.

While System Safe cannot prevent the Microsoft operating system from becoming unstable, it can integrate itself with your operating system and actively repair system file damage. Through Active File Refinement (AFR) and Enhanced ISO Seek Technology (EIST), both created by System Safe Web (formerly ISO Global Software), your system can reach an unmatched level of protection, not offered by file recovery programs on the market.

Once installed, System Safe integrates itself with your operating system (Win 95 or Win 98). Each time you start up your computer, System Safe checks the integrity of your crucial system files and reports their status (After you first update the safe and turn the File Scan feature on). If a file is corrupt, it will automatically be repaired. If a file is missing, it will be automatically replaced. This diagnostic is also available from the DOS environment in System Safe Gold. See 'DRM' in the Help section.

Using EIST, other system files in your computer are located and protected. If you happen to permanently lose a system file, other than a user system file, you can access the Internet to possibly obtain a replacement. These features are present in your System File Lab. Special provisions are made for user system files. These are: Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, System.ini, Win.ini, System.dat, User.dat, msdos.sys and io.sys. In addition to your user system files, other system files will be covered. Included are: DLL, SYS, VXD, DAT, INI. Others will be protected through the System File Lab.
