Here are a few extracts from the Help file that accompanies
ToneQuiz, to give you an idea of what the program is about. There are many more features than those mentioned here:
Tone Quiz is a practice tool for developing absolute pitch.
It was designed to allow students to practice any of the exercises in the David L. Burge Perfect Pitch Supercourse but
is useful in itself.
The Main Screen allows you to control all aspects of the practice session. There are note buttons that you can use to enter notes. There is also an octave tool to control the octave of the notes.
Tone Quiz keeps track of your accuracy and displays the statistics on the main screen. There are also many playback options available so that you can repeat a series of tones or compare a wrong answer to the right answer. The main screen of Tone Quiz is designed so that the quiz runs at your pace instead of being rigidly structured.
The Note Choices dialog box allows you to control all aspects of how Tone Quiz chooses the notes for the practice session. It allows you to choose which notes to use and which octaves to use.
You can have Tone Quiz generate between 1 and 11 notes for you to name simultaneously. It is possible to generate tones randomly or structured as major or minor chords. Usually you will want Tone Quiz to generate random combinations of tones for you to name.
You can choose which notes Tone Quiz uses by selecting each of the notes you want in the Choose the notes to use group box. To save time you can press the All Notes On or All Notes Off buttons to turn all the notes on or off.
The Quiz Controls dialog box allows you to control the pace of the practice session. You can set the duration of the tones. You can also tell Tone Quiz when to play new tones automatically.
The MIDI Settings dialog box allows you to choose the MIDI device to play the tones on. It is also possible to choose the instrument patch to use as well as the MIDI channel and MIDI velocity.
