REGISTERING AS A USER

One of the conditions some of the authors of freeware make is that you must register with them. No charge is made for this, most authors simply wish to know who uses their inventions and where they are, geographically speaking, to ensure that users are aware of available 'bug' fixes if such are needed or exist and to offer support and/or upgrades.
It seems little to ask, in exchange for the free use of an application that you have the courtesy to let the inventor know that you like his work enough to make use of it!

Very little of the software in Fun With Freeware 1 comes from large corporations. We have included only applications that enable you to read electronic books, for example, or programs for which there was no independent alternative. Where we have been able to choose between individuals and corporations, we have chosen the work of individuals.

It is always good to register the fact that you are using an author's product on your computer. The big companies will give you whatever support was described in the material accompanying the freeware and may even offer other freeware for you to try as new programs are developed. You cannot be obliged to purchase anything if you do not want it or cannot afford it. If you should receive unwanted mail from anyone, you should contact them and ask them to desist from sending mail to you, either at all or with certain exceptions. If your request is ignored, just block any future mails from them.
