Some of the software described here may have been superceded by later versions. In some cases, that is precisely the reason that the author has agreed to allow you to receive a free copy of the application. Before you imagine that this might mean the software is 'old' or 'out of date' and can be of no use to you, consider the following: a) If an application has been included in Fun With Freeware 1, it is because we have tried it out and consider it to be useful in itself, whether it is the latest version or not. A digital watch may be more modern than a sundial but both will still only end up telling you the time! b) If you try a program and like it, you can go for an update/upgrade, knowing that the time (and, perhaps, money if it is an upgrade) spent downloading it will be worth it - not always the case when downloading a program about which you know nothing much! It is usually easier to acquire an update through the Internet if you already have a version of a program installed, than to acquire a whole program that way. Less files are required to update a program than to install it in the first place, so this can save you Internet time. The programs listed here were all found on CDs supplied with computer magazines but are available online. The web address for each application is included in the notes so that you can visit the author's site and look around or just get on with installing the latest version available as freeware - which may well be the one described on these pages anyway. Freeware and Public Domain software, Postcardware,
Corporate
Freeware, Donationware
and Shareware
are explained on other pages.
