HANGMAN DELUXE

To get a closer look, click on  the thumbnails and the full-sized version will appear
Click on Wordlist and browse to the folder where the Hangman Deluxe files are kept (Program Files\HangmDL unless you changed the destination directory during installation). Inside that folder you will see another, called Wordlists. Open that and choose your language.

You have a choice of Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Latin, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish, Swahili or Swedish. (Possibly others, since we last looked!)

It was a challenge not to be resisted...to get onto the High Scores list in any game is satisfying...
It did not look as though a very high score would be forthcoming if only one in three words was guessed before the tries ran out!

Hmm...did the author get the wordlist out of a Victorian Penny Novelette? No, trumpery doesn't necessarily mean playing the same wrong note twice on a trumpet and calling it jazz...

Not only was the word not guessed but it was completely unknown to us, so it was time for a look in the dictionary...
"Of, or pertaining to the Batrachia, especially frogs and toads", it says in the Oxford English Dictionary. Well, of course, you knew that!

Here is another word that was neither guessed nor recognised!
The dictionary says "The beak or bill of a bird." Perhaps the author  is a zooloogist or perhaps a seeker of obscure words in dusty dictionaries...
We learn something every day and, on some days, several things...

Starting with the vowels works sometimes.
On the other hand, one can waste three or four guesses that way!

Another word neither guessed nor recognised! Lucky it was a short one!
The dictionary presented such a vast amount of explanation that it is impossible to quote it here but, in a nutshell, it seems to mean 'on a level with', as in, having equal footing or even ground...

It is so satisfying when you manage to get a long word!

This notice (with different words) came up three times, followed on the first two occasions by ' " is not an integer' but, at last, the magic words appeared and a slot for name-filling was presented.

Well, 80% right answers is not too bad and the real gain is two new words in our vocabulary!
Here's a game that will get to stay on our computer!
