Don Casey has long been one of our favourite marine authors, not least because he manages to teach the most basic techniques without coming across as patronising or going into details that could not be covered properly without stealing space from more urgent and pressing knowledge. Don's sense of humour, as always, shines through, ensuring that the book is fun to read even if you are not in imminent danger of trying any of his techniques out.
For some jobs, this book alone contains the information you want, you can leave the rest on the shelf. For other projects, This Old Boat acts as a very useful companion to books that dwell on specific jobs in greater detail. In tandem with any of Don Casey's other books, this maybe all you need to convince you that you can do it yourself and inspire you to get started on that daunting job. If you are about to tackle a major boat restoration project or are already into one, this book is a must-have!
