Quite often, a message will appear on the screen announcing that a 'driver' is needed to enable an item of hardware to function properly. If you have no CD or floppy with drivers for the piece of hardware in question, you will need to
collect one online. If you are fortunate enough to possess a CD or floppy disk with the appropriate driver on it, the matter will be resolved within moments.
In some cases, Windows will be able to simply extract the needed driver once the CD or floppy has been inserted. In other cases, the driver will need to be installed separately. Often the CD or floppy will have initiated a separate interface of it's own when inserted.
Usually, when this happens, or if the Windows interface that reported the driver problem in the first place declares it impossible to install the driver from the CD or floppy, it is best to cancel the Windows process and proceed with the installation of the driver from the CD or floppy - usually there will be simple instructions to follow.
Once the process is completed, the easiest way to present the driver to Windows is simply to restart the computer. Once again, Windows will 'discover' the new piece of hardware, or the existing item that needs better drivers and, when instructed to search for the appropriate driver, will find the one you have just installed and use it.
