| If you have, so far, taken your mouse for granted but now it's just refusing to co-operate... read on:How To Clean A Mouse Is your mouse cursor jerking around in an unpredictable way or sticking in one spot ? Are you afraid the computer is about to stop working altogether? It could be just a simple matter of dirt accumulated in the mouse that is stopping it from working properly... Let's take a look... Turn the computer off and turn the mouse over so that the part that is usually in contact with the mat is now face up. You will see a plastic ring, usually with arrows on it, holding a rubber ball in place within a cavity. Most of these rings open clockwise but the arrows will usually show you anyway. Open the ring and remove the ball.
Make sure the ball is clean and put it down in a clean place. The ball doesn't usually get terribly dirty but if it is grubby, try using adhesive tape by pressing the sticky side gently against the surface of the ball and then pulling it off with a swift jerk, thus collecting the crud and leaving the ball spotless.
Inside the mouse you will find three rollers and these are where you are likely to find whatever dirt is causing your problems. Angle the mouse so that gravity will help any particles to fall out of the hole rather than further into the mouse body. Scrape any crud off the rollers with something like a cocktail stick or a pair of tweezers and be very careful not to let your implement slip behind or beside the roller, because there are very fine wires around that you won't want to snap...
If any dirt does fall deeper into the mouse, do not be tempted to go in after it with your implement. Just put the mouse the usual way up and give it a few firm but gentle taps to help the dirt fall out of it.
When all the rollers are clean, replace the ball, put the plastic ring back in place and turn it to the closed position. Make sure that your mouse pad is clean too and switch the computer back on... enjoy working with your squeaky-clean mouse... | |
