 'Modem' is short for MOdulator/DEModulator.
This device allows a computer to transmit data to another computer via an ordinary telephone line by modulating the outgoing serial digital signals to analog signals. The modem then allows the receiving computer to receive that data by demodulating from the analog signals to serial digital signals. |
