| Equipment that allows the recording of data onto CDs or DVDs by means of laser engraving are called 'burners', because heat is generated by the process. DVD burners are rapidly replacing CD burners because one can read and write (burn or record) CDs and DVDs on them, eliminating the need for two separate burners.r because they are the most versatile and capable multifunction devices. Most DVD burner manufacturers are now producing machines rated at a maximum DVD burning speed of 16x, that is to say that the data is 'burned' onto the DVD at sixteen times the speed at which it normally reads the same information. Re-writable DVDs can only be burned at about a quarter of that speed, whilst the latest machines can burn CDs at 48x and re-writable CDs at 32x. Most of us are still burning at about 24x though. There are internal burners, that must be wired into your PC and external ones, mainly connected via your USB port. Take a look at some typical examples of both types as supplied by Amazon: |
